Power Plant Electrical Engineering Associate or Engineer

This role involves perform a variety of engineering assignments primarily with power
plant electrical systems. Develop plans and specifications for O&M projects and
coordinate construction/installation. Inspect plant equipment during forced and
planned outages, evaluate run/repair/replace options and recommend cost effective
alternatives. Provide day-to-day technical assistance to plant operations and
maintenance personnel, including interpreting engineering documents and
specifications for field personnel, specifying appropriate materials and equipment
for component or system upgrades or replacement, and/or investigating and
analyzing operations or maintenance problems and developing cost effective
solutions. Conduct studies, develop designs, lay out drafting work,
correlate/compile data, conduct and analyze tests, diagnose and evaluate
equipment performance and condition assessment.

The Engineer will seal engineering drawings, reports, and specifications performed
under their responsible charge. Engineering Associate II will work under the
direction of a licensed PE to accomplish this function.

Work in an industrial plant environment, including confined spaces and heights,
and be available for call out, overtime and some out of town travel.

Minimum Requirements

Education:

Both levels: Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology
accredited by Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) or other
specific accreditation agency listed in the Texas Engineering Practice Act.

Foreign degrees may be acceptable, but require an equivalency transcript
evaluated by a company acceptable to the Texas Professional Engineers Board
and supplied at the expense of the applicant.

Engineer only :
Professional Engineer License in Texas supersedes this educational requirement.

Experience:

Engineering Associate II: A minimum of 1 year Power Plant electrical engineering
experience with an Electrical Engineering degree or at least 3 years Power Plant
electrical engineering experience with an Electrical Engineering Technology degree.

Engineer: A minimum of five (5) years Power Plant electrical engineering
experience in conjunction with an Engineering degree, or a minimum of eight years
Power Plant electrical engineering experience in conjunction with an Electrical
Engineering Technology degree.

Licenses/Certifications:

Engineering Associate II: Engineer-in-Training certification is required for a degree
in Electrical Engineering Technology.

Engineer: Must be a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas in the
Electrical discipline, but will consider a Professional Engineer license from another
U.S. state with requirement to obtain a Texas PE within 18 months of employment.

Both levels: Must have a valid driver's license.

Other Information

An Engineer-in-Training certification is preferred for the Engineering Associate II.
Skills in developing new designs and solutions; interpreting diagrams, and
schematics; developing scopes of work, budgetary estimates and material lists;
and perform intermediate level skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and basic skill level
in Microsoft Outlook applications. Be able to communicate highly technical
information to non-technical people and provide training to less experienced
employees.

Salary Range

Engineering Associate (Salary Grade 13): $4,889.58 - $7,088.75/Monthly
Engineer (Salary Grade 16): $6,508.00 - $9,435.17/Monthly

About the Job

The role involves product design and development of the world’s leading PV
mounted systems. Typically, this includes fixed and tracking systems targeted
at residential, commercial, and utility applications. The products are targeted for
distribution through both internal direct sales channels and 3rd party distributor
and installers.

The ideal person will have demonstrated mechanical abilities with experience in a
variety of fabrication techniques such as machining, welding, and finish carpentry
as well as experience working on AC and DC electrical systems.
Experience with testing of mechanical systems is also desirable. This would
include measurement techniques, data collection, and data analysis. Knowledge
of roof design and construction considered a plus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Fabricate and assemble prototypes of PV modules, PV mounting system
components, tooling, mechanical systems, etc.
- Work with product development engineers in the design process of new products
- Design and build fixtures
- Prepare for and execute engineering tests
- Collect data and report findings.
- Work with engineers to create test plans and reports.
- Organize and maintain the SunPower Systems R&D shop
- Install and monitor prototypes in field test locations

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

- 4-5 years experience as a mechanical engineering technician in testing or
prototyping
- Strong aptitude with electrical and mechanical systems
- Hands-on prototyping capability
- Demonstrated ability to develop creative and innovative design solutions
- Demonstrated troubleshooting and creative problem solving abilities
- CAD skills, SolidWorks preferred
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Machine shop or construction experience required
- Experience with AC and DC electrical systems and components
- Self motivated, with ability to work both independently and with multiple teams
- Ability to climb ladders, use hand tools, machine shop tools, and lift up to 50 lbs.
